The Breastfeeding Friendly Initiative (BFI)
BFI is an ongoing project which aims to raise public awareness of the fact that mothers are entitled by law to breastfeed anywhere and at any time they want. It also aims to help mothers feel more comfortable about breastfeeding in public, an issue which is regularly cited by new mothers as a reason for stopping breastfeeding early or not starting at all.
One of the main components of the BFI has been a very successful sticker campaign. Participating businesses are asked to display a Friends of Breastfeeding sticker in their window and are then listed on the Friends of Breastfeeding website as a breastfeeding friendly establishment for mothers to check out and visit. There are currently more then 100 Irish cafes, restaurants and play centers taking part in the Initiative and we’d love to see that number grow!
